Monthly Favorites: January 2020

Can you believe it’s already the end of January? I feel like this year is moving so fast (already)! Let’s jump into my favorites for January.

LEUCHTTURM1917 BULLET JOURNAL

I started 2020 off by setting new goals and intentions. I wanted something to keep me on track and accountable. Enter the bullet journal! I’m a bullet journal newbie and if you want to read more about my bujo journey so far, you can read all about it here.
I’m using the Leuchtturn1917 bullet journal, which was produced in collaboration with Ryder Carroll, the creator of the bullet journal method. As a beginner, I really like this one. It has certain features built-in that’s helpful for first-timers like a future log, an index, a key page. They’ve also included useful tips and guidelines so you’re not completely lost when you begin.
I haven’t skipped a day of journaling and it’s really helped me keep track of things I need to do as well as plan out my day or week. I post my spread from time-to-time to the Geek & Glitter Instagram if you want to follow me there to check it out (@GeeknGlitter)

SMOKO BOBA TEA RETRACTABLE PENCIL CASE

Since I started bullet journaling, I’ve purchased a ton of fine liner pens and brush tip markers. I wanted to get a carrying case so I can keep a variety of pens and markers with me. I wanted a soft case and one that made looking for a specific pen or marker easily accessible. Smokonow.com has a variety of cute things - from office essentials to adorable toasty plushes, and it was the first place I looked.
I’m obsessed with boba milk tea so when I saw the variety of boba tea merchandise, I was over the moon! I purchased the boba tea retractable pencil case and I think this is one of the best things I’ve purchased from Smoko. The pencil case is soft and is the perfect height for my pens and markers. The coolest part of this pencil case is that it can stand on its own AND slide the top down so you can see all of your pens and markers. I couldn’t be happier with this pencil case
A word of advice to my fellow BuJo-ers. The Tombow brush tip markers are just a tad bit too long for this pencil case. You won’t be able to zip it up but if you just want this pencil case to sit on your desk and hold your pens, this will do the job.

APPLE AIRPODS (2ND GENERATION)

I’ve tried a few different types of Bluetooth headphones and earphones. Some of them perform ok but it’s always left me with wanting something more. The Apple AirPods gives me exactly what I’m looking for, which is the ease of travel. It has a simple and clean aesthetic that I love, and since I’m an iOS user it pairs seamlessly with all my devices. I opted for the AirPods over the AirPods pros because I didn’t like how the buds sit in my ears. I tried out a friend’s and even after switching to different ear tips I didn’t find it comfortable. The AirPod Pro has all the bells and whistles, but comfort was more important to me. I haven’t had a problem with the AirPods falling out of my ear, even when I’m running. Honestly, I’m ok without the noise cancellation and transparency feature. I find the AirPods’ sound quality to be just fine, and they’re easy to travel with.

SMOKO BOBA TEA AIRPOD CASE

Naturally, I had to get an adorable case for my AirPods. I saw the Boba Tea AirPod Case on the Smoko website a while ago so I purchased it right away once I got my Airpods. The Boba Tea AirPod case is made of silicone and fits perfectly. Without the case, the AirPod case can be slippery, and if you’re clumsy like I am it’s likely to slip out of your hands. Once I got the silicone case on there, I felt it was more secure and protected. And did I mention it looks adorable?

LANEIGE LIP SLEEPING MASK (BERRY)

I’ve had my eye on the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask for some time. I have a hard time keeping my lips hydrated even when I make sure I drink enough water all day. There’s always a lip balm in my purse, my car, my nightstand, my ofice, at work… you name it! I’ve been wanting to try out the Laneige Lip Mask for a while so when I spotted a trial size I had to get it and give it a go.
It was love at first application. I got it in the berry flavor, and it feels like I’m putting a layer of moisture cloud on my lips! It’s not heavy and it’s not sticky. I was worried about it being too thick, sticky, or end up all over my hair and pillow as I slept. This was not the case at all. The next day, I woke up with hydrated and soft lips. A week later, I purchased the full size. There are other flavors listed on the Laneige website as well, if you prefer a different scent

MOVIES THAT MADE US

From the producers of “The Toys That Made Us”, this Netflix docu-series gives us a look at some of our favorite movies and how they are made. This series isn’t just about the making of the movie. It’s filled with commentaries from directors, producers, and actors recounting their experience and obstacles they faced while making the film. Did you know that Ghostbusters almost didn’tget made? I binged watched all 4 episods in one day and am already itching for more.

WATCHMEN

I’m a little late to the party here but over the holiday break I finally watched HBO’s Watchmen. Believe hype! This show is off-the-wall crazy in the best way possible. Regina King is the heart and soul of the show and supporting character such as Looking Glass (Tim Blake Nelson) and Adrian Viedt (Jeremy Irons) are ones to watch for. I loved every single episode, which is rare for TV shows and I’m sad that so far there are no plans for a second season.

That wraps up my January Favorites! What are some of your favorites from this month? Let me know in the comment section below!
